SUMMER PROGRAM

Summer camps are led by our talented faculty. Your children will enjoy enhancing skills, learning new ones, and building relationships throughout the summer months.

All camps are open to both Paideia students and non-students. Paideia families are encouraged to participate and invite their friends.

summer camps violin

Session 1 | May 31-June 4 | Violin 101

Led by Mrs. Sanders for rising grades PreK – 12th (ages 4-18 years old)

M-F 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM $250 plus violin kit

Beginners – learn to play basic violin in one week. We will learn the rules of violin, the basic technique, and a simple song in just one week. Mrs. Sanders will provide a resource list of where to get a violin, either for rent or purchase.

Session 1 | May 31-June 4 | Under the Sea Ballet Camp

Led by Hallie Garber for rising grades K – 4th (girls)

Campers of all experience levels will learn new ballet steps based on each of their skill levels. There will be fun, under the sea themed crafts, and an end of the week performance for the parents. We will have snacks, crafts, activities, and lots of fun.

Start your summer right by learning about being a warrior. In the best Paideia tradition, you will be actively trained and equipped to begin on your path to be a warrior. You will be armed with a short sword and shield and trained with bow and arrows and blow guns.

Session 2 | June 7-11 | Tales of Wonder Tea Party

Does your little girl enjoy imaginative stories about princesses? Each day we will read a different beloved fairy tale such as Cinderella and Beauty and the Beast. In classical tradition, thoughtful questions will be asked to discover the virtues God created us to display as a true daughter of the King. Each day there will be a craft and themed snack that will coordinate with the story. The last day will culminate in a tea party.

Session 2 | June 7-11 | K'Nex STEM Camp

We will be learning engineering and physics through fun lessons and hands-on constructing of K’Nex builds. Everything from small 6-in cars to large 6-ft Ferris wheels.

We will be creating a colored chalk drawing, a gouache painting, and pencil drawing with shadings.

Session 3 | June 14-18 | Summer Heat Sports Camp

Led by Mrs. Monge for rising grades 3rd – 6th

M-Th 8:30 AM – 12:00 PM and Friday 9:45 AM – 2:00 PM $140

Introduction to a variety of sports & activities including basketball, kickball, soccer, and also “Field Day” type fun (water events, jumprope challenges, obstacle courses, pool noodle sword fighting, etc.). The final day will include a 90-minute introductory tennis lesson at Knoxville Racquet Club with a pro and a pool party to end the week.

Session 4 | June 21-25 | Olympic Adventure

Led by Mrs. Parks for rising grades PreK – 5th

Campers will enjoy fun Olympic-themed activities by playing indoor and outdoor games, making art, eating a themed snack, and reading great books that involve the Olympics and places around the world.

*Note: Students who register for both of Mrs. Parks’ camps this week may opt to bring a lunch and stay for the extra lunch hour (12:00 – 1:00 PM) at no extra charge.

Session 4 | June 21-25 | Learn to Be Babysitter Ready

Led by Mrs. Kant for ages 12 years and up

M-F 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM $120

This will be a week filled with learning all about how to be a safe and responsible babysitter. From developmental milestones, age-appropriate activities, responsibility, good communication, all the way to learning basic CPR and first aid. Students will end the week by putting their skills to work by actually babysitting for different age groups for a few hours (supervised by Mrs. Kant, of course). Walking away from the week, they will be more confident as well as prepared with a Mary Poppins bag of tricks to put to good use.

Session 4 | June 21-25 | Cooking Up a Good Story

Led by Mrs. Parks for rising grades PreK – 5th

This camp is great for kids who love to create in the kitchen. Each day we will read a story, make a recipe, and play games related to the literature. By the end of the week, your child will bring home a recipe book and help make five recipes for your family. (This camp may not be the right fit for someone with several or severe food allergies. I will supply a list of all ingredients and can make a few substitutions, but please be aware that this may not be possible for every recipe.)

This camp is for young men interested in gaining a variety of skills. Some activities might include: • Chop wood, build a fire and cook over it • Survive a bear attack • Tell a joke • Sew a button • Use a map and compass • Build a shelter • Change a flat tire • And other useful, fun guy things!

Session 5 | July 12-16 | Latin Camp

Led by Dr. Wilson for rising grades 5th – 8th

This camp will introduce Latin to students who are just beginning to learn the language. See this as a crash course in getting geared up for your child’s first Latin class in the Fall. We will play Latin games and do as much outdoors as indoors.

Session 5 | July 12-16 | Introduction to Volleyball

Led by Kristen Leach for rising grades 5th – 8th (girls)

This camp will use fun games and activities to teach beginners the basic skills of volleyball such as serving, passing, hitting and more. This is a great camp for those with little to no experience to explore this fun sport and decide if they would like to join the school team in the future. Girls will need knee pads and good tennis shoes to join.

Session 6 | July 19-23 | Logic Boot Camp

Led by Mr. Gentry for rising grades 8th and above

This camp is for incoming 8th grade students who haven’t taken formal logic or for any student who needs a refresher. We will study symbolic and propositional logic, focusing on the square of opposition, the rules of logic, and how to determine whether an argument is valid. No prior knowledge of logic is necessary to take the class.

Session 6 | July 19-23 | Advanced Volleyball

Led by Kristen Leach for rising grades 8th – 12th (girls)

This camp is for girls who have previously played for the Paideia Volleyball Team or those who are able to execute the basic fundamentals well. Participants will learn offensive and defensive strategies to become more competitive team players. Girls will need knee pads and good tennis shoes to join.

Thursdays | June 3 - July 22 | Band Camp 101

Led by Mrs. Owstrowski for rising grades 5th – 12th

This camp is for students who have never played a band instrument. We will learn to read music in a fun, hands-on way and learn proper playing technique. Students will be expected to practice daily on their instruments at home. We will have an informal performance on the last day of the camp. Upon registering for this camp, Mrs. Ostrowski will contact you to schedule an instrument fitting for your child and discuss options for obtaining a band instrument. Fittings should take place during the months of March and April.
