School of Logic & Rhetoric

7th-12th Grades

Paideia Academy’s School of Logic & Rhetoric encompasses exciting years in a student’s development, both personally and academically. Students build upon their knowledge acquired through our School of Grammar to enter into the Great Conversation, pursuing understanding, wisdom, excellence, and virtue. We seek to encourage each student to reach his or her full potential by building relationships within a challenging and nurturing learning community.

We teach formal logic and reasoning skills through tools like the Socratic Method and Aristotelian Logic. These subjects train students in the science of accurate thinking and subject integration, allowing them to “argue” intelligently, effectively, and respectfully. We also equip students to discern the rhetoric inherent in the world and provide them with the skills necessary to create and interact with that rhetoric by speaking and writing well.

Integration between academic subjects and a biblical worldview is fundamental to our mission. We use an integrated curriculum of humanities, arts, and sciences, called Omnibus, throughout 7th through 12th grades. The students are led through the study of the great works from the dawn of time up through the modern day, connecting historical events and ideas to one another and making application to current events, seeing God’s sovereignty over all and glorifying Him in all.

Halls

Our School of Logic & Rhetoric is divided into smaller fellowship groups called Halls, loosely based on the house system associated with historic English boarding schools. One of the primary purposes of this hall model is to provide fellowship and discipleship among the students and faculty. It also provides a structure for participation and healthy competition. Service projects both on and off campus are organized through the Halls, and students compete in a variety of activities in both academics and intramural sports. The Halls strengthen collaboration between students as they seek to mentor, encourage, and support one another and to complement each other’s strengths and weaknesses.
