FIRST LEGO LEAGUE ROBOKNIGHTS

Grades 4-8

Sponsor: Lydia Zinn – lydiazinn@gmail.com

What is FIRST LEGO League? Founder Dean Kamen explains: “In FIRST® LEGO® League, children are immersed in real-world science and technology challenges. Teams research and design their own solution to a current scientific question or problem while they also build and program autonomous robots using LEGO® MINDSTORMS® technology to perform a series of missions. Through their participation, children develop valuable life skills and discover exciting career possibilities, while learning that they can make a positive contribution to society.”

The RoboKnights Team is open to students interested in being a part of a LEGO robotics team and learning about robotics, project development, and project presentation. There are a limited number of spots on the team, and students must fill out an interest form if they want to participate (email Mrs. Zinn for more information). The cost is $100.

  • The season runs from August to January (Note: The team could continue work into February if they are successful in competition and qualify for the State tournament.)
  • There will be a regular team meeting, one day per week from 3:30-5:30 at Paideia.
  • We will have periodic Saturday meetings and parties.
  • Extra team meetings may be scheduled during the weeks before the competition.
  • Team members may have some minor “homework” to help the team (ex: research, read an article, contact an expert, work on a program)

NOTE: We do not currently offer daily afterschool care. If you are arranging afterschool care, you may want to ask if the organization would add Paideia Academy to their pickup route. They may contact our office staff to coordinate.
